Hey!

4,827 people are receiving this email today. Holy SHi***!@*@*@*

That word translates to “shenanigans.”

Do you really think I’d curse on this newsletter? HA!

Before we keep going, welcome back to another edition of the blog. If you’re new to the blog and want to go back and check out past editions, go here!

Today’s edition has two parts:

1. A Helpful Tip (Video) – The Defensive Shot Every Player MUST Learn.

2. For the Pickleball Nerds  Seriously, It's Time You Stop Doing THIS!

A Helpful Tip (Video):

I know the lob is a bit of a taboo shot in recreational play. It can be annoying for some and dangerous for others who don't have proper footwork.

But in recent months, I've learned "The Sky Lob" (which I'll teach in the video below) can be an extremely useful shot to hit when you're back at the baseline on the defensive.

Let me explain...👇

For the Pickleball Nerds:

In the 82 editions of this newsletter, I've rarely cursed, using “strong” language just 3 times.

However, in today's edition, I will speak French a few times ONLY to leave a lasting impression on this thing players need to stop doing.

Here it is:

When you find yourself off balance, avoid making foolish decisions.

I’ll repeat for clarity: When you're off balance, don't do stupid shit.

For example, when you're off balance at the kitchen, don’t hit an aggressive dink or speed up the ball. Similarly, when you're off balance in transition, avoid going for a risky all—or—nothing winner.

Instead, focus on playing disciplined.

Many players, in their desire to hit the ball as hard as they can, as often as they can, commit unforced errors by trying to do too much. They end up doing stupid shit.

However, the best players at the highest level understand a crucial concept: When you're off balance and out of position, recover your balance so that you can regain your aggressiveness.

Attempting to play aggressively while off balance, whether you're on your back foot or pulled wide, rarely leads to a positive outcome.

And trust me, this isn’t a beginner's tip. It’s an everyone tip.

I’m constantly thinking, what’s the separator between levels? And I’ll tell you, one key component I’ve learned is shot selection.

I’ve mentioned this many times, but it bears repeating — players lose far more points due to their own mistakes than their opponents' exceptional play.

And most of those mistakes come from off balance, poor shot selection play.

The good news is, you can start getting better at this immediately.

  • If you’re off balance on a dink, survive that ball with a dink back to the middle.
  • If you’re off balance while back at the baseline, hit a lob high into the sky to give yourself time to get back in position and on balance.
  • If you’re off balance in the mid court, reset the ball back into the center of the court and regain your balance.

It’s simple, but it’s not easy!

Not many concepts can change your game overnight, but this one will!

Talk next week,

Kyle
