What I learned about Pickleball from a Salad and Go...

Feb 08, 2024

Hey!

Before we keep going, welcome back to another edition of the blog. If you’re new to the blog and want to go back and check out past editions, go here!

Today’s edition has two parts:

1. For the Pickleball Nerds – The Tale of Salad and Go.

2. WHAT'S COMING NEXT  You're Invited to The Premiere!

For the Pickleball Nerds:

A soft hip hop instrumental filled my car as I pulled up to Salad and Go, marking my second trip in two days.

I placed my order and pulled up to the window.

“That’ll be $7.33,” he said.

After swiping my card, his words barely registered over the beat of the music, “Your food will be ready soon.”

30 minutes later, I pulled up to the Desert Ridge pickleball courts, eager to watch my friend's tournament.

As I went to grab the food, nothing was inside the bag. Confused, I realized this was yesterday's trash.

Immediately, my stomach sank as I searched for today’s order. I checked the backseat & even went to the trunk as a last ditch effort.

I found nothing.

It made no sense. Where was my food?

Then it hit me. I paid for the food, then left — without the food.

I felt like a complete idiot. But upon reflection, I realized something.

Too often, my mind wanders to the next tournament to be played, or video to be made, or newsletter to be written — neglecting the present moment.

At some level, it’s natural for us to do this from time to time. But when once turns to twice, and twice turns to many, something must change.

So let this story be a gentle nudge to be graceful with our $7 mistakes, but diligent in reminding ourselves of the all important now.

Because each overlooked moment is a missed opportunity to truly live, especially moments we get to spend on the pickleball court :)

PS: 3 days later, I went back to Salad and Go and the same kid took my order. This time, I got my food, and we shared a laugh at my previous blunder. But more than the laugh, we shared a moment of recognition – that sometimes in life, we just need to slow down.

WHAT'S COMING NEXT WEEK:

Everything's going out!!!

That’s my new pickleball motto. Is it dramatic? Yes.

Is it true? Kinda, but no. :)

Not everything is going out, BUT the more I study this game, the more I realize THIS IS THE MOST OVERLOOKED AND UNDER TRAINED SKILL IN PICKLEBALL!

AND I’M ONLY YELLING BECAUSE IT’S TRUE!

So, what does this mean for you?

Me and my editor invested 100+ hours working on two in-depth videos on how to actually let out balls go out. And a quick shoutout to him – his animations help make the teachings ultra-clear. It might just be his best work yet.

On February 13th at 7pm EST, I’m releasing video #1. I’ll go over why that old line, “shoulder high, let it fly,” is good, but only about 1/1000 of the equation. And so much more!

Then 2 weeks later, I’ll have video #2 ready for you where you’ll learn the best way to go train it on court.

Talk soon,

Kyle

PS: Don’t worry about commenting “duck” (from the graphic). That’s for instagram. But do remember to duck when you go out and play tomorrow :)

PPS: Only 4 spots are left for my PickleballSchool happening February 16-17. Message me if you’re interested and want more information :)
