Quit Hitting Out-Balls When Drilling.

Nov 09, 2023

Hey!

Before we keep going, welcome back to another edition of the blog. If you’re new to the blog and want to go back and check out past editions, go here!

Today’s edition has three parts:

1. A Helpful Tip (Video) – Be the Teammate You Want to Play With.

2. For the Pickleball Nerds – Quit Hitting Out-Balls When Drilling.

3. My Journey Playing Pro  Tuesday Night Pickleball at The Orchard!

A Helpful Tip (Video):

No one wants to play with a bad teammate. It makes you nervous to make mistakes and oftentimes ruins your playing experience.

Of course, I’m not perfect at this. But I have spent ample time thinking about how, not just to be a good teammate, but a great one.

Introducing an oldie but (what I believe to be) a goodie.

“How to be the best teammate ever.”

Enjoy!👇

For the Pickleball Nerds:

I’m making a youtube video to help you (and me) get better at letting out-balls go where they belong – out.

The script is close to complete, which means I’ll film this video in the next couple of weeks!

In the meantime, here’s a quick tip to help you improve at one of the hardest skills in pickleball. And no, it’s not “shoulder high let it fly.”

It’s this 👇.

Never hit out-balls when drilling.

Specifically, I’m talking about balls you could easily let go but choose not to because you don’t want to go chase the ball down.

I get it. You want to save time and keep the drill going. BUT, by doing this, you build a bad habit.

It’s much better to let the ball sail into the fence and run after it because that minuscule moment trains you to let it go. Plus, you get extra cardio. Win-Win. 😂.

In closing, this won’t change your game overnight. But slowly, you’ll see improvement :)

Let out-balls go in moments that don't matter so you don't hit them in moments that do.

My Journey Playing Pro Pickleball:

I have no tournaments on my schedule for the rest of the year. One big reason is, I’m still having issues with my wrist, so I’m training a bit less and only playing the Arizona Pickleball League matches.

Speaking of, my next match will be livestreamed again next Tuesday.

And don’t worry, I’ll send out another email next week with the link if you want to tune in!

See you then,

Kyle
