I left my job. I’m going all in on pickleball. 😳

Oct 20, 2022

Last week, I made the extremely difficult decision to walk away from my full time job and go all in on pickleball.

In the most personal post I’ve shared to date, I unpack why I made the leap in part two of today’s edition.

Today’s edition has two parts:

  1. An Entertaining Video - I partnered with Skechers to help promote a Tyson McGuffin Impersonation content {Video below}

  2. An Update on my Journey To Pro - I decided to go all in on pickleball.

Also, welcome to the 51 people who joined last week and thanks to everyone who referred a friend!

Without further ado, let’s dive into the 45th edition of the newsletter — powered by Selkirk!

An Entertaining Video:

In last week’s edition, I mentioned I was working on a fun project with pro pickleball player Tyson McGuffin.

Now, I can share what that project is. Skechers saw my Tyson Impersonation and had the idea to do a nationwide Tyson McGuffin Impersonation contest. You can get all the details for the contest here.

They were kind enough to ask me to be involved. One thing led to another, and a few weeks later, I was with Tyson creating a promotional video for the contest.

This project was so fun to work on. A bunch of my friends helped with the brainstorming, filming, and feedback on the final edit.

Here it is.👇

One quick behind the scenes piece.

We only had 45 minutes with Tyson, so my friends and I shot a quick mock version back home of what the video could look like before we ever got with him.

The main reason being, we wanted to be as prepared as possible.

I watched it again this morning and it made me laugh. So I thought, heck — maybe you’d get a kick out of it as well!

An Update on My Journey to Pro:

Last week, I decided to step away from my full time job at what may be - the greatest company in the world, PGC basketball – to pursue something else full time...

Pickleball.

The sport that feels like, is taking over the world. ha!

And you might be wondering, “Cool, but what does that actually mean? Going all in on pickleball.”

In short, it means investing a majority of my time in two specific ways:

  1. Training to become a pro player and

  2. Producing fun content that makes people laugh, teaches the game, and shares a look into my journey to the pro level.

I’ve been doing these two things for the last 9 months, but now…

It’s where all my attention will go!

The truth is…

…this has been one of the most difficult decisions of my life. In fact, I've had a couple good cries in the past week as I’ve navigated the transition.

It’s because, this is in no way one of those,

“I just left a job I hate for something I love.”

It’s more like, I’m leaving a company I’ve loved working at for the past 3 years for this other thing I also love.

And after months of wrestling with this, my heart kept pulling me more and more towards pickleball.

And now, I’m diving in head first and going all in.

A few people have asked, “Kyle, are you sure you want to do this?”

And that question made me think.

It made me think about what I enjoy most in life and what I want most.

I came up with these four things:

  1. I love working with inspiring people,

  2. I love to make people laugh,

  3. I love to tell stories and,

  4. I love to compete.

And what do I want?

To spend a majority of my time doing those four things in and around pickleball!

So that’s what I’m going to do!

I know I’ve said it before, but I think it reigns true now more than ever.

This is just the beginning.

Until next time,

Kyle
