3rd Shot Drop vs. Drive Debate

Oct 10, 2023

Hey!

Before we keep going, welcome back to another edition of the blog. If you’re new to the blog and want to go back and check out past editions, go here!

Today’s edition has three parts:

1. A Helpful Tip (Video) –  3rd Shot Drop vs. 3rd Shot Drive.

2. For the Pickleball Nerds  The #1 Team in the World's Strategy.

3. My Journey Playing Pro  Improving My Mental Game.

A Helpful Tip (Video):

It might be the most talked about shot in pickleball. The 3rd shot of the rally.

Specifically the 3rd shot drop and the 3rd shot drive

Both good options. Both very different. Some only like one. Some believe you should never drop. ðŸ˜‰

I share my take on both shots in this week's youtube video.

 Enjoy!👇

For the Pickleball Nerds:

Win, after win, after win. For them, losses are rare.

The Johns brothers are the most dominant men's doubles team pickleball has ever seen. And it’s not by accident.

In this article, I break down the strategy they use to dominate.

Enjoy!

My Journey Playing Pro Pickleball:

For a decade, I've read about mental training. I've practiced some, but never consistently.

Most of us know, the greatest distance in the world is between knowing and doing.

We know eating the whole gallon of ice cream might not be good for our health, yet we still do it. We know exercise is good for our health, but so many people never get off the couch.

I’ve got to a point in my pickleball journey, where, the separator is no longer physical. It’s mental.

Sure, there’s still a lot physically I need to get better at, but the leaps for me will come from a change in mindset.

And like I told a friend yesterday. If my social media scrolling time is greater than my mental training, I’m doing it way wrong. And those behaviors would indicate, I actually don’t want this thing as bad as I say I do.

In the coming weeks, I'll write more about this. Because at the moment, it’s all still very fresh. I want to do more work before I share with you all!

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with a video I watched this week that inspired me. Maybe it’ll do the same for you.

When Tony Hawk landed the 900, it was epic. And my favorite part of this video is the look he got in his eye when he was close. He was in a different zone, knowing it wasn’t “if” he'd do it, but “when.”

In closing, I’m back in action this weekend playing the APP Dallas! I’m excited to put into practice what I’ve already started doing on the mental side :)

Until next week,

Kyle
